1. Jogigunde- Located in the small village of Agumbe are the Jogigunde Falls. Unlike the usual falls where you see water falling down from a great height, at Jogigunde, you witness more of a mystic experience. The water from the falls makes it was through a network of caves and then falls to the ground. The verdant greenery all around makes the experience magical. Trek to the base of the falls and you could take a dip in the water which is rich in minerals. You have to be cautious though, for the trekking trail to the base of the falls is quite narrow.

2. Savandurga- Savandurga is easily one of the best treks around Bangalore. It is one of the largest monoliths in Karnataka which attracts a lot of adventure seekers throughout the year. If you are looking for an easy trek, choose the Billigudda trek. For a more technical and a more adventurous experience, choose the Karigudda trek, the only condition being, you need a special permission for it. The top of Savandurga peak is like a reward for the hard work you do to reach it. The views are fantastic, and so is the cool mountain air.

3. Kodachadri- The highest peak of Shimoga district is the Kodachadri peak. Located about 110 km from Bangalore, Kodachadri is a popular trekking spot. There is Sarvajana Peetha at the top of peak, which is believed to be the meditating spot of Guru Shankaracharya. While the peak offers scintillating views of the valley, the journey itself is beautiful. You will come across a couple of waterfalls on the way up, apart from lush greenery that is a treat for your eyes. Just a small caveat- avoid this trek during the monsoons, for the leeches can be dangerous at that time of the year.

4. Nandi Hills- This is a small hill station located close to Bangalore. The hill station has been hitherto largely unknown. However, it is slowly gaining popularity among adventure seekers who flock to this destination for a nice trekking experience. There are quite a few trekking trails in Nandi Hills to choose from, each having its own characteristic. The trekking trails in Nandi Hills are of moderate difficulty level, which makes it ideal for beginners as well as experts.

5. Anthargange- Short, strenuous, adventurous- that is what defines trekking in Anthargange. Located about 60 km from the city of Bangalore, the destination offers a nice respite from the humdrum of your daily routine. You can choose to trek to the top of a plateau, or even try cave exploration in the caves of Anthargange. Other adventure activities here include rock climbing and rappelling.

6. Ramdevara Betta, Ramnagar- Ramnagar, the small village located close to the Bangalore, is known to be an ideal spot for rock climbing and rappelling. The village has several natural granite formations which makes it a favorite among rock climbers. One of the best spots for trekking and rock climbing in Ramnagar is Ramdevara Betta. This sufficiently high hill can give you an adventurous outing and some stunning views too. Rappelling down from the hill is no easy task too, but it is definitely worth the thrill.

7. Mekedattu, Karighatta Trek- Mekedattu is a nice one day getaway from Bangalore, located about 100 km from the city. The place has quite a few adventure opportunities to offer, which include kayaking in River Kaveri and rock climbing. The highlight though, is the Karighatta Trek. The trek to the top of the hill is a moderately difficult one. In other words, it is difficult enough to give you thrill, but easy enough to not be too dangerous. Just the right balance!

8. Vanakebe Falls Trek- Agumbe is a beautiful hamlet close to Bangalore which is blessed with some fantastic scenery. One of the jewels of Agumbe is Vanakebe Falls. The falls are located about half a kilometer away from the bus station of Agumbe. The trek to the waterfalls is about 3.5 km and should take approximately an hour and a half. There is nothing really difficult about the trek, so don't get your hopes up in that regard. However, the view you get from the waterfalls is just stunning. To have the best of the experience, do yourself a favor and choose November to February as the time for this trek. You will avoid the bloody leeches.

9. Skandagiri- Enjoy a tryst with history while enjoying a tryst with nature at Skandagiri. This is a peak located about 60 km from Bangalore. It has a ruined fort at the top which dates back to the reign of Tipu Sultan. There is even a small, ruined temple at the top, which further adds to the unique aura of the place. The trek to the top of the hill isn't too difficult. Nevertheless, it is beautiful and a perfect reason to get away from the madness for once.

10. Ranganathaswamy Betta Trek- About 40 km from the city of Bangalore is the Ranganathaswamy Betta Trek. It is a pilgrimage as well as a popular trekking destination. The peak has the temple of Lord Ranganathaswamy which is frequented by travelers throughout the year. The trek to the top of the peak is about 4 km long and takes you through rich flora and fauna. You can spot herds of elephants of the way up, apart from other animals.
